To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the classic Rothschild Bird pattern, Herend asked its artists to dream up and execute the crowning piece de esistance in tribute to Rothschild Bird. The submission of master artists Gyula Toth and Tamas Torok embodied the magic they sought. Herend asked master sculptor Zsolt Szaraka and master painter Sandor Vida to add their special touches, resulting in the magnificent Bravura Vase. Artists handcrafted 83 pieces and 99 flowers for the whiteware sculpture with twisting vines – birds – bugs – leaves – Japanese cherry trees – mushrooms and butterflies. The whiteware alone requires ten craftsmen two months to complete, and three top painters require more than 200 hours to paint it. The vase portrays a correlation between firmly planted roots and the promise for infinite growth and advancement. As we travel lifes twisting and turning path a strong foundation supports us to move steadily upward toward our personal summit as portrayed by the bird perched proudly on top. Handmade and handpainted porcelain from Hungary.
